Points of Interest in Lefkada

It’s one of the most photographed beaches in the world. Mother nature over the centuries with all her creativity has given us a unique landscape that is just simply stunning with a lush green mountain-side that ends with a cliff drop that during the course of the day changes from a palette of white to gold and finally ends on the crystal blue waters of the Ionian Archipelagos extending as far as the eye can see, leaving you in a surreal daze of pure serenity. You can experience the beauty of Porto Katsiki in one day – The mid-morning hours provide natural shade from the cliff drop over the beach and the crystal blue waters until the slowly approaching mid-day Greek Summer Sun comes over the mountainside to finally light and warm the entire landscape where you will see the natural artwork of colors changing on the cliff side and the endless shades of blue across the Ionian Sea. Those that go all the way will be immersed at the end of the day by the mesmerizing sunset that will lie before you on the west coastline of the island creating one of the most romantic settings you could ever imagine on a beach.

Egremni beach on the west coast of the island has been awarded by many leading Travel & Tourism Publications as the No.1 Beach in the World the last 4 years running. Egremni beach is the jewel of Lefkada and the locals are proud of it. The waters that stretch along the beach can’t be described in words; many have tried by comparing it to the waters of the Caribbean or by marketing it as ’50 Shades of Blue’. All the beauty of the Ionian Sea ends up at this beach with its golden sand and crystal blue waters that leave you dipping in and out to make sure what you see before you is real. Egremni beach up until 2019 can only be accessed by private boat which our company always feels proud to organize through our VIP Concierge Services for our Villa Guests, but announcements have been made recently by the Municipality of Lefkada, that in 2020 the road will be complete to access it by car.

Sivota Bay in Lefkada although today is a traditional Greek Fishing Village dates back to Ancient Greek Mythology associated with the journey of Odysseus and the poet Homer. Sivota is a natural hidden away harbour that will remind you of Greece of the 80’s and 90’s with the friendliest and most hospitable of atmospheres that is ideal for families. Our Villa guests are spoilt every season in Sivota with all-day experience starting their day with breakfast along the seaside with the bells ringing from the yachts moored in the bay. After a Greek breakfast through our VIP Concierge Service, a day out with a motorboat with private captain is the ultimate experience while on holiday in Lefkada. The evening in Sivota is what we will long for in Greece with a seaside table and the freshest of fish and seafood with Greek music playing the background. A day in Sivota is all about living the Greek life.

Ancient times and Greek Mythology of love and heartbreak go far back to even Cape Lefkatas which in ancient times was the place that those with heartbreak would jump off the cliffs to end their suffering and the goddess Aphrodite chose this place. Also, the Muse, Sappho, chose this place to end her suffering of loving Phaon. Usually to get the best views for the perfect photo wherever you are in the world you will have to drive a little, Cape Lefkatas at the southernmost point of Lefkada is one of those places, but since you will certainly be visiting Porto Katsiki on your next Villa Holiday to Lefkada, it’s only a 15-minute drive away to this spectacular location which will give you 360-degree views across the Ionian Archipelagos stretching across the west coastline of the island and even giving you a clear view of Ithaca and Kefalonia in the distance.

On every island in Greece, we are always trying to find in our exploration the most secluded beaches. On the island of Lefkada that one beach us locals have as our favourite is Milos Beach on the west coastline. Milos beach can be experienced in two unique ways depending on how fit you are and what you consider to be too warm. The village of Agios Nikitas is the go-to point to get to Milos Beach either via trekking over the mountainside or by taxi-boat from the seafront of Agios Nikitas. Either way, once the beach appears before you, you will feel a sense of accomplishment that you have found a hidden paradise. There is a long and wide stretch of beach for that personal space we all long for on holiday and the shades of blue before you will change during the course of the day laying around and doing absolutely nothing but relaxing.

Nidri is the tourism hub of the island. It is where tourism started on the island back in the 1970s with the infamous name ‘Aristotle Onassis’. The island of Aristotle Onassis, named Scorpios, is part of the scenery from the port of Nidri. Nidri is a cosmopolitan town offering everything from restaurants of every cuisine, boutique stores, beach bars, water sport activities and the most popular daily boat cruises. This town is a must-see on your next holiday to Lefkada for an evening stroll down the pedestrian strip. The long stretch of Nidri Port is the perfect place to sit and have an evening cocktail and enjoy what the locals love most about summer, people watching. Nidri is also the place to catch a ferry for a daily trip to the islands of Meganisi, Ithaca and Kefalonia.
